NFC

What is NFC?

Near Field Communications (NFC) is short-range wireless technology that allows for the quick exchange of information when two NFC-enabled devices are touched or in very close proximity. The main uses of NFC are considered sharing, pairing, and transactions. This means NFC devices can share data with another device, synchronize data between devices, or exchange data to consummate transactions securely.

All NFC transactions take place at a very close range, anywhere from touching an NFC device to an NFC enabled reader to typically 4 centimeters. This ensures that all transactions are intentional, so consumers do not unknowingly send/receive information without their knowledge.

NFC compliments many of the other types of wireless technology, including RFID, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. NFC is not a new technology, but is rapidly gaining momentum in several key markets. Ambiq Technology currently has the ONLY existing Unified Services Platform, which securely connects your mobile devices to various applications and services utilizing NFC innovations

Examples of NFC:

  • Using your mobile phone as a ticket at a turnstile at the train station or pay for your bus fare
  • Tapping a smart poster, to receive information about an upcoming event or get a coupon to your favorite restaurant directly on your mobile device
  • Waving your phone over a “For Sale” sign, and instantly receiving a URL, which includes the pictures and details of a house on the market
  • Unlock a secure door or gate when arriving at work by simply waving your phone over the reader
  • Exchange business card information through NFC-enabled business cards, and have that information stored directly into your phone
  • Tap your phone over a point of sale terminal to quickly pay for food, retail items and other purchases
