For the second year in a row, Ambiq wowed crowds at the St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum with its unique applications for the exploding near field communications (NFC) market. Partnered with the Russian telecom giant Beeline, Ambiq featured contactless payment systems using NFC-enabled mobile phones. Forum guests experienced first-hand the benefits of using mobile devices to pay for home utilities, obtain information wirelessly from a city map and utilize phones as transportation tickets. Ambiq presented the security and ease of mobile payments managed through the Ambiq TSM cross-functional infrastructure, the only existing unified services platform, supporting all major verticals and services.

Ambiq Technology, Inc. and Bladox, s.r.o. announced that they have entered into a licensing agreement to manufacture and distribute an innovative add-on mobile phone hardware solution that enables existing phones with Near Field Communications (NFC) capability. As a result of this agreement, Ambiq can offer an end-to-end solution for NFC applications for various industry needs utilizing its Ambiq TSM Unified Services Platform while leveraging the enabling phone solution from Bladox.

The partnership objective is to accelerate the worldwide adoption of NFC by providing the majority of the current 5.3 billion mobile phone users the ability to participate in the rapidly expanding NFC ecosystem without the expense of purchasing a new NFC phone. These innovative devices can interface with contactless point-of-sale (POS) solutions and other acquiring products, typically used in transportation, utility, retail and other payment systems.

The Global Platform (GP) and Javacard compliant devices, based on a proven Bladox design, will be manufactured by Ambiq and its partners and will include a state of the art operating system from Bladox, a Secure Element from industry leader NXP for authentication and security, a tightly tuned RFID antenna, and proprietary software applications and solutions from Ambiq.

The device and mobile NFC applications communicate directly with full OTA capability to Ambiq’s Ambiq TSM, the only end-to-end services platform for unified deployment of cross-functional solutions shared across partners, customers and market segments. The complete system (Ambiq TSM and hardware components) has been the foundation of an NFC automation project for the St. Petersburg Metro since the fall of last year and initial commercial deployment of the devices is planned for release in Russia in July.

Ambiq Technology and the St. Petersburg Transportation Authority signed a Technology Cooperation Agreement at an official press conference on December 21. This Agreement establishes Ambiq as a technology partner of St. Petersburg, providing products and services based on its proprietary NFC mobile payment platform. Ambiq has developed a complete solution that enables passengers to use mobile phones to buy tickets to ride the public transportation system, and it has been undergoing testing in the St. Petersburg Metro since October 2010. Ambiq Tech SPB presented a unique contactless payment system, which allows for users to pay for transportation and other products and services using mobile phones, at the St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum, held September 28 - October 1. Many Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies were showcased at the Ambiq booth; however, the most recognizable and anticipated was the St. Petersburg Metro Turnstile, which allowed guests to pass though the turnstile with an enable mobile device.

Ambiq highlighted the services being implemented for the St. Petersburg Metro, which leverage the latest in mobile technology and the Ambiq TSM unified services platform. The system will utilize secure or contactless devices installed in standard mobile phones which will be managed by the Ambiq TSM service through its connection with the existing Metro turnstile and management system.

Ambiq Technology, along with the St. Petersburg Metro, will launch a new transportation solution in September 2010. Ambiq has developed its platform and partnered with several companies that will allow the conversion of exisiting mobile phones used by passangers of the St. Petersburg Metro to fare tokens. The benefits to this uniform system are overwhelming and include convenience, ease of use, reduction in paperwork and operating costs and improved efficiency.

Upon successful completion of the pilot, Ambiq Technology and the St. Petersburg Metro will continue the rollout of the transportation system through 2010, with full deployment expected by mid-2011.
